Anne holds a Bachelor of Economics (Monash) and
Education (La Trobe), together with a recently completed Post-Grad
Diploma in Epidemiology and Biostatistics (Melbourne).
An interest in population health planning for the
acute health sector took Anne into the Department of Human Services
(Public Health Division) where she was part of the team of
epidemiologists completing the Victorian Burden of Disease study,
initially published in 1999, and revised in 2004, which measures the
health status of populations in terms of Disability Adjusted Life Years
(DALYs). Anne was primarily responsible for extending the Victorian
DALY health status estimates to the local government areas within
Victoria. Recently Anne has been applying the health outcome measure,
DALY in the evaluation of the cost-effectiveness of health
interventions in the areas of mental health improvement and obesity
prevention, with a view to informing Commonwealth and State helath
policy. Anne is interested in extending this cost-effectiveness
analysis techniques to an evaluation of screening for coeliac disease,
with the aim of drawing attention to the potential benefits of early
