EducationA focus on the
education of health professionals about coeliac disease is one of the
two core activities of the ANZCRF. Professional Education is
a continuing area of emphasis, and we are delighted to announce the
launch of an exciting new product :-
The Coeliac CD Awareness, Diagnosis, Treatment & Good Health for all. Knowledge and understanding of coeliac disease is lacking in the health profession and among the general population. It is known that one out of every 100 people has coeliac disease, although more accurate figures could be as high as 1:70. Under-diagnosis and mis-diagnosis of coeliac disease and lack of awareness of the seriousness of the disease make life for the patient difficult, tiresome and dangerous. Nexpep, a scientific research and development company, in conjunction with the ANZCRF, has sought to address this problem by producing an educational CD that will provide meaningful information on coeliac disease to general practitioners, allied health professionals, newly diagnosed patients and their families. It is a most comprehensive product, packed with information, and valuable insights (on video) from Ms Sue Shepherd (Advanced Accredited Practising Dietitian), Prof Don Cameron (Paediatric Gastroenterologist) and Dr Bob Anderson (Gastroenterologist). The ANZCRF would like to acknowledge the contribution of Ms Karen Sims as project manager for the development of the CD. The CD has attracted international interest with media coverage of the launch in New Zealand in May. Click here to view the feature article in the NZ Press. For General PractitionersA unique aspect of the CD is its role as a professional education tool – It has been approved by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and the RNZCGP for CME points. Copies of this new resource are available through Coeliac Society offices in Australia and New Zealand.General Practitioners can take some time out and work through the program, updating their understanding of the latest in diagnosis and care – and receive accreditation points for their time and effort. Special Offer to Health Professionals - Complimentary Copies of the Coeliac CD To support professional education into coeliac disease, our industry partner in the CD Project, Astra Zeneca has agreed to provide the Coeliac CD free of charge to GPs, medical specialists and practicing dietitians.
